What is a sediment pre-filter?

A sediment pre-filter is a filter that is installed before a filter or system to prevent dirt, debris or sediment from entering the filter or system and further more into the home where it can be a nuisance to appliances, plumbing fixtures clogging them up and in some cases damaging them.  A pre-filter is recommend for all filters especially those connected to a well.  The pre-filters should be checked every 6-9 months and changed when necessary.  This precaution can potentially extend the life of the filter and save on repairs to appliances, plumbing fittings and improve the quality of the water.
